A few years ago, I met Issy @eye_for_content through networking. Today, we collaborate regularly, support each other’s businesses and have created opportunities that neither of us could have achieved alone. That’s the thing about networking. It’s rarely about collecting business cards or making a sale on the spot. It’s about relationships. The conversation that sparks an idea. The introduction that changes everything.
The person who becomes a collaborator, a cheerleader or a friend. That’s exactly what we’re celebrating at my Athena Network Suffolk Connect & Inspire event next Tuesday, 23rd June. Life lately has felt a little bit like organised c Life lately has felt a little bit like organised chaos. School runs, netball matches, sports days, birthday celebrations (including the arrival of a teenager in the house!), half-term adventures and attempting (and succeeding) to build flat-pack furniture on what was the hottest day of the year. Alongside all of that, I’ve been photographing some incredible women in business, capturing events in London, photographing and celebrating a special friend’s wedding day, working behind the scenes on the new Content Connectors website, hosting Athena Network Suffolk meetings and planning our upcoming Connect & Inspire event. It’s busy. Sometimes (well, always!) exhausting. Occasionally (read that as totally) chaotic. But it’s also full of wonderful people, meaningful work and plenty of moments that make me stop and smile. Looking back through these clips, I’m reminded just how much can happen in a short amount of time. Now, if someone could just arrange for the days to be a little longer...

The photos that grow your business usually aren’t The photos that grow your business usually aren’t the perfect ones. They’re the ones that feel like you. Over the years, I’ve lost count of the number of times a client has chosen a polished, posed image as their favourite... only for a more relaxed, natural photo to become the one that gets the most engagement, enquiries or messages. The image where they’re laughing. The one where they look thoughtful. The one they nearly didn’t choose because it felt a little too real. I think we’re often far more critical of ourselves than anyone else is. What you see as imperfect, your audience often sees as approachable. What you see as vulnerable, they see as human. And in a world full of carefully curated content, people connect with people. Not perfection. If you’ve got photos sitting in a folder because you’re waiting until you feel confident enough to use them, consider this your sign. The right people aren’t looking for perfect. They’re looking for you. Which photos do you tend to avoid sharing - the polished ones or the more natural ones?

Not because you’ve finished your to-do list (let’s be honest, has that ever happened?!). Just because you deserve it. On 23rd June, I’m bringing together women in business from across Suffolk for an afternoon of bubbles (including non-alcoholic options), afternoon tea and genuine connection. We’ll be at the award winning @djvboutiqueipswich and there’ll be a mini style session from Suffolk-based Image & Style Consultant Lucy Finlayson @stylingwith_lucy Because sometimes the best thing you can do for your business is step away from it for a couple of hours and spend time with people who truly understand the journey.
