There’s so much to think about when you book your brand photoshoot. You need to have the right location that works for your brand and business. You need to choose the right outfits that you feel comfortable in. And you need to plan your brand photoshoot props that help show your ideal client what you’re all about. These will ensure you have images that look right for your brand. This library of photos will make you stand out from the crowd and your competitors, bringing in more enquiries and ultimately more sales. So how do we make sure your brand photoshoot props are perfect for you?

I recently worked with Jackie of The Website Success Academy. Jackie helps female business owners to create their own website. This is how we planned for her shoot; that allowed us to create a curated prop list that worked perfectly for her brand.

Brand Photoshoot Plan

The first part of the planning process involves a questionnaire. This helps me to get to know your brand and business. I create a shoot plan from this questionnaire, and we finalise this during your planning call.

Brand Stories and Prop List

When I start working with a client, we decide on the stories you want to tell. This could be anything from being indoors at your desk, showing how you work, to being outdoors, relaxing or going for a walk. We came up with two stories for Jackie, which informed the shot list and outfits and props. This was all added to the shoot plan.

Above is an example of one of Jackie’s stories. This shows you the shot list, along with the props list. In addition, this list makes a handy tick list when Jackie was packing for her shoot.

Library of images

Here are just a few of Jackie’s images from her brand shoot. Jackie’s brand photoshoot props, coupled with the right outfits and location, ultimately show how a photoshoot can create a strong brand look.

What props are suitable for your brand?

The word ‘personal’ is precisely what you need to focus on when thinking about your brand photoshoot props. Here are a few ideas for your props:

  • Notebook/Diary/Planner
  • Favourite Mug (or even a branded one!)
  • Pencils/Pens/Highlighters
  • Laptop and Phone
  • Flowers/Plants
  • Books – ones that inspire you and ones that you like to read when you’re relaxing
  • Snack – this could be anything from your favourite treat to your go-to snack when you’re working
  • Printed out client questionnaires/Processes
  • Moodboard
  • Candles

The list could go on, but I leave it there for now!

In case you’re stuck with your brand photoshoot props, here are some prompts to help you start thinking:

  • What things do you use every day that you can’t live without?
  • What do you use for your clients every day. A lot of this may be electronic, but could you print them out?
  • When you’re relaxing, what things do you usually have around you?
  • What items surround you in your home office or workspace?
